International ‘Water and Film’ Event: Event launching on 20 November and call for films extended to 28 November
Launched in Mexico in 2006 during the 4th World Water Forum, the International ‘Water and Films’ events (IWFE) are a joint initiative of the International Secretariat for Water and the French Water Academy. The next edition will be held from 16 – 21 March 2009 in Istanbul, during the 5th World Water Forum, with the overall theme Water, People and Sustainable Development. The IWFE event launching will take place on 20 November at the Pavillon de l’Eau in Paris, France. Entries to the film contest will be accepted until 28 November.

The impact of climate variability and change on groundwater resources remains poorly understood and is one of the most persistent knowledge gaps identified by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in both its 3rd (2001) and 4th (2007) Assessment Reports.

UNESCO publishes first world map of underground transboundary aquifers
UNESCO is publishing the first-ever world map of shared aquifers to coincide with the submission to the General Assembly of the United Nations on 27 October of a draft Convention on Transboundary Aquifers.
